Spiritia Rosenberg [RKS001 Eins] (スピリティア・ローゼンベルク, Supiritia Rōzenberugu), also referred to by her friends as Tia (ティア, Tia) is the first member of the RKS and the main protagonist of Rosenkreuzstilette. Spiritia has been a close friend to Freudia Neuwahl since her childhood, and also has a fairy friend by the name of Lilli.

Appearance

In the Rosenkreuzstilette series, Spiritia is dressed in Gothic-Lolita fashion; she wears a white long-sleeved shirt with a red necktie and dark blue ribbons, a black skirt that reaches close to her breasts with white lacing around the middle and bottom of the skirt, white stockings and black shoes. Spiritia has long, blonde hair held in a large ponytail with an ahoge and a silver cross pinned to her hair. She also has emerald-green eyes. The color of her hair, eyes, and necktie vary based on what weapon she has equipped.

Personality

"...I can't let them get away with this!"
—Spiritia Rosenberg, Rosenkreuzstilette

Spiritia is a straightforward and honest young woman with a strong sense of justice and moral convictions that are second to none. She is known to be a bit of a klutz and a terrible swimmer, as she sinks like a brick in water. Spiritia is also known to be naive at times. She goes by the nickname "Tia" among her friends (with the exception of Grolla Seyfarth, who prefers to refer to everyone by their long names due to her formal manner of speech).

Abilities

Spiritia's initial ability, the Seelegewehr, allows her gather mana within her vicinity and releases it into a single blast. The more mana she gathers, the more powerful these shots become. Since these shots do not tap into the her own mana supply, she is capable of using Seelegewehr indefinitely. Spiritia is also gifted with the ability to gain her foe's abilities upon their defeat.

After six months of training as an instructor of the Imperial Army, Spiritia returns home along with her fairy friend, Lilli. On their way, they spotted a dragon flying over in the horizon. Lilli becomes upset when Spiritia mentioned Freudia's name in front of her, though she reminded Lilli that she is just as dear to her as Freudia is. They both made their way into the Imperial Training Hall and met up with Count Zeppelin's daughter, Iris. However, Iris was abducted by the same dragon they saw earlier and Lilli went on to follow it in an attempt to save Iris, leaving Spiritia alone when the Imperial Training Hall fell under attack. Spiritia and Lilli reunited after the Black Forest was set on fire.

Spiritia later found her childhood friend, Freudia Neuwahl, and learned that she and the RKS was the one responsible for burning down the forest, with Freudia in charge of the rebellion under Count Zeppelin's orders. She asks Spiritia to join her and the rest of the RKS in their rebellion, though Spiritia refuses to any part of it and stand up against them. She was then branded as traitor to the organization and Freudia reveals that she was ordered to kill her should she resist, though she was single-handedly defeated.

Spiritia and Freudia eventually confronted each other once more. Freudia asks her if she has reconsidered her decision, but Spiritia still refuses. After Freudia began to reminisced their childhood together, she told Spiritia that all she ever wanted to live in a world where everyone can get along, which was her reason for taking part of the RKS rebellion. Spiritia was determined to put an end to the RKS's plans and make them see the error of their ways. Freudia knew that she was not going to convince her from interfering with their plans, so she was intent on killing Spiritia herself.

Freudia was once again defeated by her closest friend. After she released how strong Spiritia was, she asks Spiritia to finish her off. Spiritia swas not willing to kill her closest friend, as Spiritia only wanted to protect those in the RKS while also protecting others from the RKS. During their sophistry, Freudia reminded her about the law of the world: in order to protect something, something else must be sacrificed in exchange. Spiritia told Freudia that her reason for fighting against the RKS was because of her love for everyone in the RKS. Freudia then leaves to rethink her actions.

After fighting against everyone in the RKS, Spiritia made her way to Zeppelin's Castle to put an end to the rebellion. Just before they can enter Zeppelin's castle keep, Spritia and Lilli ran to Raimund Seyfarth's scythe, the Grassense and hear a voice echoing from nowhere, belonging to Raimund himself. Spiritia then realized that Zeppelin had used the forbidden arts to bring Raimund back from the dead. Afterward, Spiritia slew Raimund and returned him back to his eternal slumber.

Finally, Spiritia confronted Count Zeppelin himself. Zeppe;in gave her a long lecture of the past: he told her that the Empire has no emperor and was ruled by the Orthodox Church and how Magi were treated in the past. He then told her that the most powerful Magus that ever lived, Rosenkreuz, gave everything he had to help Magi become free from persecution. During that time, Rosenkreuz and his eight disciples fought against the Holy Empire and the Orthodox Church and how his sacrifice had created the RKS, Rosenkreuzstilette: the Blades of the Rose Cross. Zeppelin also revealed to Spiritia that his own daughter inherited Rosenkreuz's powers and intelligence, making Iris his reincarnation. Zeppelin tried to keep it a secret from the Church, but he made a foolish mistake when he told people he thought he could trust about Iris. One of these people was Liebea's elder brother, Kahl Palesch. He realized that Kahl was a spy working for the Church and that he informed them about Iris, so he launched a coup against the Empire. Zeppelin's plans to create "a new world for Magi" and protecting Iris from the Church were one and the same. Zeppelin finally asked Spiritia to join them, though once again she refused. Spiritia wanted to protect Iris without sacrificing anyone, so she was planning to protect Iris and stop Zeppelin's plans.

Zeppelin was defeated by Spiritia. Despite this, she was willing to help Zeppelin if he was willing to end the rebellion. Spiritia first asked him about Kahl's location and the proof that he was a spy. Zeppelin told her that Kahl made an attempt on Iris' life and that she told him this herself. Lilli realized something was wrong: they met with Iris at the Imperial Training Hall when the rebellion started, though Zeppelin claims that Iris was with him the entire time to tell him about Kahl. From out of nowhere, Lilli sensed danger and warned Spiritia to get out of the way. Iris destroyed her father with her Blitzstrahl from behind.

Iris attacked and fatally wounded Spiritia. She desperately wanted to know about Iris' motives behind everything. Iris admitted that she told her father about Kahl, but lied about one part of the story. Kahl was able to see through Iris' facade and got him out of her way. Being born with the powers and the knowledge of the most powerful Magus in history, Iris grew bored of the world, so she staged the abduction at the Imperial Training Hall to get Spiritia to pick up her pendent so she could watch as Spiritia fought against her friends for Iris' amusement. Out of all the people Iris deceived, Spiritia was the easiest to manipulate. Iris launched another attack to finish off Spiritia, only for Freudia to stop the attack. After her encounter with Spiritia, Freudia investigated the situation on her own and confirmed her suspicions about Iris. Iris then fled to her palace and prepared for a final showdown. Freudia over-exerted her powers saving Spiritia and became exhausted. Freudia told her to go after Iris while she handles everything with Kahl and the RKS. Just before Spiritia left, Freudia gave her a Cross Tank to recover her injuries from Iris's attack. Afterward, Spiritia went to pursuit Iris and put an ended to all this, once and for all.

Spiritia confronted Iris at last at her palace. Iris first used her mechanical fortress, the Iris Machine, though it was no match for Spiritia's powers. Iris then fled to the highest point of her palace with Spiritia in pursuit. Along the way, Spiritia and Lilli found the dragon from earlier. She broke the red orb that was binding it in its place and freed it. Lilli then talked to the dragon and learned that his name is Talos. Talos wanted to repay for the favor for freeing him by flying them to where Iris is hiding. Finally, Spiritia and Lilli confronted Iris for the last time. Iris began to laugh as she finally realized something about Spiritia. Even though she inherited Rosenkreuz's powers and intelligence, she overlooked the one thing that she did not inherit: the very thing that made Rosenkreuz different from any other Magi in existence, his ability to tap into the power of others. That is when she realized that Spiritia is also Rosenkreuz's reincarnation, "the Blade of Rosenkreuz". However, it did not matter to Spiritia if she is Rosenkreuz's reincarnation, as long as she had her friends by her side, that is all that mattered to her.

Rosenkreuzstilette ending

Spiritia happily reunites with her friends alongside Lilli and Talos.

Finally after a grueling battle, Spiritia defeated Iris and foiled her plans to become god of the new world. Iris could not believe that she lost to Spiritia. Spiritia told her that her reason for her downfall was because she could not believe her fellow man and it was the support of her friends that bought Spiritia the victory. Iris attempted to take her down with her palace by activation the self-destruct mechanism and escapes, leaving Spiritia to fall to her death. Spiritia then finds herself flying on Talos' back. She wondered where Iris went off to, but has no clue as to where Iris could go. Spiritia thanked Lilli for being by her side. Finally, Talos flew Spiritia and Lilli to a floating island where their friends were waiting and happily reunited.

Rosenkreuzstilette Grollschwert

Spiritia serves to replace Grolla as boss of her stage in Rosenkreuzstilette ~Grollschwert~. Her role in Grollschwert is the same as that in the main game - she, not having liked RKS' idea of attacking the Holy Empire, is on a quest to stop them just like Grolla, beating them up and asking them to stand down and cooperate with her (unlike Grolla, who is beating them up just to get them out of her way) while also having been branded as a traitor to the organization like Grolla.

But the path she takes against Grolla in ~Grollschwert~ is much different than the one she took in the main game. While having already defeated Freudia, Trauare, and Luste, and acquired Lilli's item, she also heard that Grolla was trying to stop their colleagues as well and that she too had been marked as a traitor. The fact that Grolla wasn't taking part in the rebellion either was a surprise to Tia, and she decided to see her about her quest to stop their colleagues. When she came to speak with her, Grolla wondered if she came to dispose of her as well, yet Lilli reminded her that Tia was only trying to stop RKS' attack against the Empire. Tia explained that she, too, was branded as a traitor, and needed to stop Count Zeppelin before he took this coup of his any further. Grolla suggested that he might be involved as well, though it didn't matter to her - she needed to kill Iris before the situation got out of hand. Tia was shock to hear this: she desperately asked her to tell her that she didn't mean that, but Grolla told her that, even though she couldn't tell whether Zeppelin was working with her, Iris was the cause of the war. Tia didn't believe her, but Grolla admitted that Tia was naive as usual. She knew that whether Tia believed her or not was of no import as long as she didn't stand in her way. Tia asked Grolla if she was going to kill her, and Grolla agreed. Tia didn't want her to do that, and Grolla admitted that she knew it would come to this. She had always desired a serious match with her, and figured this would be the perfect opportunity. Tia declared that she would not let anyone hurt Iris, and didn't want Grolla carrying that sin, vowing to stop her even if it took everything she had, and Grolla then shouted, "Come at me with all you've got, Spiritia!" From there, a duel ensued.

During the battle, by the time Tia's health hit one unit left, Lilli provided her with a Cross Tank that revitalized her, but even that wasn't enough to stop Grolla from exacting her revenge on Iris. Grolla told her, "You may heed my words or toss them aside: Beware of Iris. If you don't, you will pay a high price." Tia realized Grolla wasn't lying and planned to see Iris for herself. Grolla agreed to let her do it, and Tia told her to be careful and left.

Boss strategy

Spiritia starts by sending Lilli to attack Grolla, which is unavoidable unless Grolla attacks Lilli. She will also fire Seelegeweher shots, chraged or non-charged, at Grolla. Just before Spiritia could be defeated, Lilli gives her a Cross Tank and revitalizes her. From there she will use Freudenstachel if Grolla is on the ground, Lustatem if she clings to the walls, or a fully-charged Klageharnisch if she is out of Lustatem's range. Its best to stay off the ground and stay on the walls until Spiritia prepares a charged Klageharnisch attack. As she prepares her attack, Grolla is free to deliver a charged attack while she uses Klageharnisch.

A Homonculus impersonating Spiritia also replaces the Grolla Homonculus when Grolla reaches Iris Stage 3.

"Freu!"
—Spiritia Rosenberg,Rosenkreuzstilette -Freudenstachel-

Spiritia returns alongside Lilli in Rosenkreuzstilette ~Freudenstachel~. Her appearance has only received minor adjustments, such as a different tie, and slightly larger breasts.

In ~Freudenstachel~, her role is that of a supporting character as well as one of the two final bosses alongside Iris. In the beginning of the game, Tia is abducted by Schirach Fühler and is taken away by a floating mechanical claw. She is not seen again until the Final Stage, where she is revealed to have been brainwashed by Iris. After Freu defeats her, she moves on to fight Iris, and defeats her as well, saving Tia. After Freu seals Iris away in an ice crystal and sends her to an unknown place, Freu and Tia return home where they happily reunite with everyone, just like Tia did in the first game.

Rosenkreuzstilette ~Weißsilber~

In Rosenkreuzstilette ~Weißsilber~, Pamela Arwig meets up with Tia in the final stage. Pamela is able to sense that Tia is not herself but is under Iris' control, and decides to free her by defeating her. After she does so, she then forces Iris out of hiding and moves on to defeat her as well. Pamela then delivers the fatal blow to Iris and causes her to start exploding before demolishing her palace. Pamela then reunites the unconscious Tia with Freu and Strudel, who thank her for saving her, and they part ways as Pamela returns home to the other members of the Schwarzkreuz.

Boss strategy

Spritia will emit a magic circle around herself and fire a large Seelegewehr shot at the player, which she can jump over to avoid. She'll also fire four more smaller Seelegewehr shots which the player should jump or slide between, or three sets of four even smaller Seelegewehr shots that'll home in on the player. She can also jump forward and fire a green orb of light that will split into eight. Tia will also generate a circle of light orbs before sliding away. Tia can also call down five golden swords from above, and she'll slide towards the player, which will deflect any projectiles fired at her. At the same time that she does that, the swords will turn into lightning bolts. Once the final boss' health bar drops to half health, Iris will take Tia's place and continue the final fight.

Trivia

  • Spiritia's name is derived from the word "spirit," which refers to the fact that she is Rosenkreuz's reincarnation. Her family name, "Rosenberg," comes from Uwe Rosenberg, a German board game designer.
  • Spiritia bears many allusions to Mega Man and his incarnations from the Mega Man series; both characters have a strong sense of justice and they possess similar abilities, such as the ability to copy the powers of their fallen bosses. They also have a naive personality that was pointed out by their enemies or allies to be their own downfall. It should also be noted that Spiritia's RKS Number is similar to Mega Man's DRN (Doctor Right Number); his being DRN-001. Spiritia can also "copy" her opponent's powers by tapping into them.
  • Spiritia's spoken line when she reaches Desperation Mode, 「まだいけるっ!」 ("It's not over yet!"), is also a spoken line used by Zero from Mega Man X4 when his Life Energy runs low. This line is also used by Freudia in Rosenkreuzstilette ~Freudenstachel~.
  • Along with Freudia and Grolla, Spiritia is one of the only pre-fortress bosses to have a unique boss theme. Her boss theme is called "Fighting Spirits", composed by Silver Chaos.
  • Spiritia shares similarities to her friend, Freudia Neuwahl: both character have similar types of clothing and hairstyles, they have their own unique boss theme, and they serve as the main protagonists of the Rosenkreuzstilette series. The difference between her and Freudia is she is dressed in a Gothic-Lolita attire, her ponytail is larger than Freudia's and it is held by an unseen ribbon.
  • Spritia being the boss of Grolla's stage in Rosenkreuzstilette Grollschwert is most likely a nod to Mega Man Powered Up, in which playing as a Robot Master will replace the boss of his respective stage with a fake Mega Man.
